Learning Activities

We use learning activities to explore a topic or concept through play. Learning activities are hands on, engaging and meant to meet and support a child where they are in their learning journey.

I know this may sound overwhelming, but I promise it is easier than you may think! On average, a learning activity will take about 5 minutes for your toddler to complete. Learning activities do not have to be long or elaborate. In fact, I believe it is better if they aren't.

Whether you are doing journal work, movement based games, or interactive activities with your toddler- it is all important in helping them learn! Find what works best for you and your little! I have lots of ideas that fit all types of needs I am sure I can help you find an idea that fits yours!

Sensory Play

Sensory play is one of our favorite ways to shift moods and cool down. Sensory play is a great tool to keep in your back pocket when your toddler needs help regulating their big emotions.

Water, rice, kinetic sand, shredded paper, cereal, shaving cream, baking soda, play doh- It is ALL sensory play! And I bet you already have some of these sensory bin bases in your house right now.

The best part of sensory play is that it can take less than a minute to set up and your toddler will play with it for hours.

To make a sensory bin all you need is a large bin (we use a 41qt clear under bed storage box) and a sensory base. Then add a few tools for stirring, digging, or scooping. It is really that easy!

Friday Fun

Friday Fun is a class for toddlers (2-5 years old) that I host in my home. We spend an hour exploring a learning topic through play.

We focus on a new topic every week. We sing songs, create art, complete STEM inspired activities, explore sensory play and increase our early literacy and math skills!

This class provides an opportunity for toddlers to create relationships, practice following directions, learn new skills, and play!

Mission

My goal at Surviving Toddlerhood is to empower parents and caregivers to help their children develop a love of learning by sharing easy activity ideas that do not cost a fortune. By providing parents with reasonable, creative, educational activities, we can set our children up for success and help them feel confident in themselves. I believe that learning through play is the best way for toddlers to retain information and practice what they have learned to obtain mastery.
